Marie Antoinette was born in Vienna to Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary and Bohemia Maria Theresa, whose official residence in the Kingdom of Hungary was Bratislava Castle.
The latest exhibition on one of the most fascinating life stories in European history—the dramatic tale of Marie Antoinette, who, thanks to the marriage politics of her mother, Maria Theresa, became the most famous French queen.
The splendor and grandeur of Versailles are coming to the magnificent Knights’ Hall at Bratislava Castle. You will have the opportunity to view costumes, wigs, paintings, furniture, and other works of art on loan from the Palace of Versailles. The exhibition will also feature items from the collections of Slovak museums and film clips that will give you a glimpse into the life of this famous queen—from her childhood at the imperial Schönbrunn Palace, through the lavish life of the French monarch at Versailles, to her death on the scaffold.
Marie Antoinette was the ultimate fashion icon of her time and continues to serve as an inspiration to some fashion designers to this day. Accept our invitation and come experience a taste of the luxury and grandeur of Versailles at Bratislava Castle.
The exhibition opens on April 30, 2025, in the Knights’ Hall of Bratislava Castle – entrance from the courtyard.
